History & Heritage
At the centre of the town stands Cahir Castle, one of Ireland’s best-preserved medieval fortresses, rising proudly above the River Suir. Just a short riverside walk away, the elegant Swiss Cottage—designed by John Nash in the early 1800s—offers a glimpse of romantic Georgian architecture. Only a 15-minute drive north, the iconic Rock of Cashel towers above the plains of Tipperary, showcasing centuries of Irish history in one extraordinary site.
